Old World Cellar

European Fine Wines since 1845
The collection of European fine wines at Palais Coburg is among the most significant of its kind, comprising over 13,000 bottles of Austrian wine alongside selected rarities from renowned regions such as Italy, Germany, Hungary and Switzerland. Featuring vintages dating back to 1845, this cellar offers a unique insight into the heritage of European wine culture.
Highlights include around 300 bottles of the legendary Sassicaia from Tuscany – a symbol of Italian winemaking excellence. Carefully curated, the selection reflects the depth and diversity of Europe’s wine tradition, making this cellar a must for connoisseurs, collectors and admirers of historic vintages.

The France Cellar is the heart of the Palais Coburg wine archive – and with around 30,000 bottles, the largest of all. Here rest the great names of French viticulture, with a particular focus on the celebrated regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy.
Alongside these iconic reds, the cellar also features exceptional wines from other distinguished regions including the Loire, Alsace and Rhône. This outstanding collection embodies tradition, quality and variety – a must for admirers of classic French wines.
Champagne Cellar
The King of Sparkling Wines
In the deepest room of Palais Coburg – once the palace ice cellar – lies an exclusive collection of more than 1,000 bottles of Champagne, the most noble of sparkling wines. The Champagne Cellar provides ideal conditions for prestigious houses such as Dom Pérignon, Billecart-Salmon and other renowned producers of the Champagne region.
The historic stonework and perfectly tempered atmosphere make this a unique sanctuary for lovers of refined effervescence. The oldest Champagne in the collection dates from 1962, highlighting the depth and distinction of this remarkable archive.

The Yquem Cellar is a tribute to the legendary Château d’Yquem in Bordeaux – world-famous for its noble sweet wine. Since 1893, every vintage produced has been represented by at least one bottle in this exceptional collection. With over a hundred vintages, the cellar chronicles the history of one of the world’s most precious wines.
A true centrepiece is the impressive 15-litre bottle, symbolising the rarity and grandeur of the collection. The Yquem Cellar combines historical depth, luxurious heritage and masterful curation – a true gem for lovers of exquisite dessert wines.
Rare Wines Cellar
Historical Wine Treasures
The Rarities Cellar at Palais Coburg is a veritable treasure chamber for collectors and connoisseurs of the rarest wines. Set within the historic walls of the former wine store of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha – now equipped with the latest technology – it houses some of the world’s oldest and most valuable wines.
Among its highlights are Portuguese sweet wines dating back to 1795 and, according to Christie’s wine expert Michael Broadbent MW, the oldest drinkable wine in existence: the legendary 1727 Rüdesheimer Apostelwein from the Bremen Ratskeller. This exclusive collection encompasses hundreds of carefully selected bottles, each representing the highest standards of provenance, craftsmanship and taste.
